Creation of an Corpus Based Material

Hi everyone :)

Me and my friend Yaren designed a corpus-based activity that enhances the learning experience for the students. Our target audience was prep class and our topic was teaching the difference between "already, just, yet" and how to use them correctly.

In our activity designing process, we aimed that our students would be able to discriminate the mentioned time expressions accurately by completing the worksheet. Another goal was to direct students into using the corpus tools effectively. Furthermore, with the help of these activities, they will be able to improve their grammatical, technological, and communication-based skills.

Before we started to design our worksheet, we brainstormed our ideas and decided which activity would be suitable for our target audience and their proficiency level. When we started to design our worksheet, we had some technical difficulties such as being unable to share a document on Word (even though we know how to do it :)), and poor internet connection due to bad weather. After solving our problems, we started to use Canva. First, it was difficult for us to find how to accommodate the template to our own liking and needs but after spending some time we figured out all the tricks. In the end, we created a satisfactory product and had so much fun while doing it even with all the difficulties we had encountered.

If our material were implemented in a real class, none of the activities would be hard to apply except the corpus step. Searching in the corpus site could be difficult for some students who do not have any access to the internet and it cannot be executed without technological devices.

Overall, the design of this material was really fun for us and the product incorporates our objectives and goals perfectly :)
